CHANDIGARH: Consumer electronics major Samsung India on Thursday said LED televisions will constitute 25 per cent of sales of its flat panel TVs in current year on the back of customers' rising demand for high definition TVs.


The company also targets to double sales of flat panel TVs this year.


"This year we expect LED TVs will have share of 25 per cent of our total sales of flat panel televisions category," company's Vice President and Head AV Business, Raj Kumar Rishi told reporters here today.


"We have come to know that now more and more people prefer buying LED TVs over other flat panel TVs because of its design, picture quality and less energy consumption," he said.


Light Emitting Diode (LED) TVs constituted 10 per cent of Samsung last year's sales of flat panel televisions.


LED TV has a share of 15-20 per cent in country's total flat panel market size of 4.2 million units per annum while plasma TVs having 5 per cent share and rest is with LCD TVs.


Buoyed by the upsurge in demand for flat panel TVs, Samsung has set a target to double its sales of TVs to 1.5 million units this year. Last year, company sold 0.75 million units of flat panel TVs.


Samsung India is manufacturing flat panel TVs in Noida and Chennai facilities having production capacity of 1.6 million units each.


Korean major in festival season is eyeing sale of Rs 2,500 crore from all segments and earmarked Rs 150 crore for gifts which would be distributed among lucky customers.


"We are looking to achieve sales of Rs 2,500 crore in this festival season with a growth of 30 per cent over last year's sales in this season," he said.View the original article here
